Do You Dare Disturb the Universe?
Observation and decision-making in art are similar to the processes of observation and decision-making in the sciences. This project engages participants to collaboratively create paintings, using water-based media, onto wood-cut research maps.
Do You Dare Disturb the Universe? comes from a quote in Prufrock, T. S. Eliot’s observations of the difficulty in contemplating probabilities and outcomes when making a series of decisions. The maps engraved on the wood panels were acquired from Dr. Kristen Byrd, a NASA-funded USGS researcher who collaborated with the artist (Lisa Jetonne) in creating this project. Future presentations of this projects could employ maps or images from any research, in any discipline related to participant motivation or interest.
