STORYTELLING PORTFOLIO > Biotypewriter

A month-long participatory project I developed and presented at the Natural History Museum in San Diego. In an exhibit hall filled with unusual specimens (animal, plant, geological), each bearing no information other than the species name, I invited each person leaving the exhibition to stop and write a spontaneous poem about what they thought they'd just seen.

Vintage Hermes typewriter, poetry reference books, Rolodex of words, and cart drawers filled with additional museum specimens.

(A "biotype" is the characteristic specimen that's agreed upon, generally globally, to be the benchmark representative of a particular organism species.)
